Briana, a self-proclaimed beast slayer who is almost famous in the kingdom (well, not really), has her hands full when her father falls ill and she must work overtime to purchase medicine for his failing health. Desperate for money, she takes a job from a strange woman who warns her that she won't be able to complete the job because no one has been able to. The job, kill the monster residing in a castle. Briana sets out overconfident and ready to slay the beast. She is not ready when she comes face to face with a man instead.

Westley is cursed to remain a man during the night and a dragon during the day. When Westley appeals to her nicer side, they develop a plan. He will accompany her to claim her reward so that he can find out who wants him dead. Now both Briana and Westley are stuck with one another on a long dangerous trip to the center of the kingdom. Never mind that Briana has to deal with his annoying personality and his insistence on trying to get her to fly (there are plenty of beast slayers who are afraid of heights, right?), while Westley must deal with a march toward possible death when all he wants to do is read books in his castle in blissful seclusion, (thank you very much). But Briana is awfully cute and won't take no for an answer.
